Default 2001 MC ss Amplifier

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but my amp isnt working in my 01 monte carlo ss, so i see this thread with the link to the bypass harness. Can someone please explain to me how this works? If I buy the harness and unplug the amp, where do I plug this harness into? Sorry again for lacking this knowledge, I just don't have a clue when it comes to this and I don't want to buy the harness if its not something I am capable of fixing myself. Thanks ahead of time!

If you just want to replace your factory amp, I have one from a 2001 SS that works fine. I replaced everything with aftermarket.

If you decide to go for a replacement amp - Great! But if you decide to bypass the amp the harness you linked will work.

How it works: A wiring harness carries the signal from the radio and plugs into the amp. After the amp does its job (amplifies the signal) another wiring harness carries the signal to the speakers. The bypass harness goes inline in place of the amp. Installation is simple. You unplug the harnesses from the amp and plug them into the bypass harness. Job done.

03SSLE, thanks for that info, that's the part I was confused on, does the bypass harness connect in the trunk where the amp is or behind the deck in the dash, seems simple enough then if you literally unplug it from the amp and plug that harness into the bypass one I really hope facekicker wants to sell me their amp tho, much rather have it. Appreciate them help everyone! I need my music back!

Yep, just unplug the harnesses from the amp and plug them into the bypass harness. No need to access the rear of the radio.

i have a 2001 monte carlo ss, when i got it, it had already had the original radio taken out and replaced by a media deck. about a month into me having this car, the deck started to turn off and on all by itself while driving, then it ulimatly quit working all together. so i had a friend of mine take that deck out and replace it with a new one and subs and a amp. a few weeks later the car wouldnt start without a jump, then it wouldnt start at all unless you hooked it up to a booster. i got a brand new battery, and that wasnt the problem. my friend said that when he put the new deck subs and amp in the car that he hot wired it into the hazard lights cuz he couldnt get power any other way, and told me that i would eventually have to get a special harness...so i buy the harness, the same one that the guy above linked, cuz my car wouldnt start at all even with the booster and even with all the stereo stuff unhooked, so i buy the amp bypass harness(same as above) and we put it in the car in the truck and just plug it into the only spot there was that it fit into comming off of the amp...then we charged the battery turned it on and it wokred..ok...but here where the problem is...then we realized that we never unhotwired it from the hazard lights...so we go and try and do that and nothing works now...no stereo...car wont start.....sumone please help me figure this out...this is like my dream car (sort of) and i just want to driving it already... thanks so much
