Default 07 Monte Subs & Amp Q&A

I have a 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo 3.5 L and I got to 12 inch kicker subs with a 1800 max white Kenwood amp with 900RMS.

My Bosche alternator is rated at 125 Amps!

Got a 1400 Watt Amp wiring kit can I do this without any additional equipment?

like w/o a higher output alternator or Capacitor?

And what’s the blue16 gauge 3ft wire used for and connect too from the amp wiring kit?

I hate when wire companies list in wattage. Amp manufacturers make the whole thing complicated, especially the low end companies. Theyll write crazy peak numbers all over the amp, 3000 watts, and then bury the rms rating somewhere that ends up only being 300 watts or something. Then you've got people thinking they need a 1/0 wiring kit for their 25 amp fused amplifier. The other hard thing is run length which varies a ton between a rear battery car and a full 20' run in a giant SUV making the wattage not on the wiring package somewhat irrelevant.

For your setup, as long as the fuse is sized properly and is 4 gauge power and ground, itll be fine.

While that might sound like a lot, there are some issues:
-The car itself can draw much of that when you've got everything running (electric fans, headlights, HVAC, etc)
-This amp will probably draw about 75 amps - more than half of the alternators output
-Amperage output is also going to be RPM relevant. 125 amps may not happen until elevated engine rpm. Just something to consider if you plan on listening a lot at idle

Id personally install it and see how it does as is. I've developed too much distrust over the years for places over-rating their amps.

Theres also a lot of variability in amp draw depending what you listen to as the bass line of the music impacts how frequently the amp is drawing at full tilt. Driving style also impacts it - someone who just sits there at idle in parking lot cruise in is going to have a harder time than someone actually driving around while listening.

If you're seeing severe voltage drop issues, I wouldn't bother with a cap. It's just another type of storage reservoir and doesnt actually create more power in the system. If its significant, you're probably way overdrawing amperage and an alternator would be the best bet. Just have to be careful to look at output vs rpm to make sure it actually puts out more power at the speed you need it.

thats your amp turn on wire. Hooks to remote/power antenna with off head unit (blue wire if aftermarket)
