Yes I had an '05 SS with the factory 200 watt amp. Sounded great. I have an '06 now, and they cheapened a lot of stuff. Basically a two door Impala, but that is OK, Much easier to get parts for. Sound system is just OK, so that is how I know about doing the tweeters up in the sail. Looking at my window sticker, it says I have 8 speakers. News to me. But no mention of an amp, like in my 05. Now I guess I will do some investigating.
I admit, I am pretty ignorant on the sound options in 06-07, but I thought the doors had both a woofer and tweeter like the 00-05 premium sound packages. But I am not sure. Curious if they did some fancy stuff with the back speakers (like the multi-channel 6x9's in the Grand Am or the setup for 4 speakers in the back that I believe the Regal had).
So the 00-05 Monte and Impala are also pretty identical (except one is 2 and the other is 4 doors). As you noticed, GM stuck with that trend in the 06-07 Monte and Impala. Nothing horribly bad about that. Keeps a lot of things easy to mass produce.

Would like to get the tweeters up high to ear level, but that may be a real job. I can get a decent set up for around $140 for all of them. Not an easy install though, so need to find someone that does car audio. Rears don't look too bad, but the front door panel has to come off.
If you liked the added power of the older monte, you could always add an aftermarket 2 or 4 channel amp at the same time to power them with.
I found the same to be true on the Impala side of things (as they're practically the same car). Our 08 was much cheaper (and had far more issues) than our 00 and 03 had. Wasn't too obvious on the showroom floor, but the more you lived with the car, the more you'd find places they cut corners.
You have any local car audio shops? Having worked in that field for several years during college, it's a very simple job for them - including the high mount tweeters.

If you're considering DIY, I'd look up info on the fronts too. IMO if you can do the rears, then the fronts are definitely doable. Its just a few screws and pop clips to get each door panel off.
4 speakers, a 5 channel amp, and a sub will take them less than one day for sure. A pro installer can do it in half a day, but hourly pay folks won't be as motivated.
I am curious though, does your Best Buy still do car audio? The two closest to me got rid of the entire car section and now just use the old install bays for added warehouse storage. I don't go there often, so I was surprised to see it this last time.
I have extra cars, so probably just dump it at Best Buy for a week.
