Default 02 Monte. How to deaden trunk lid?

I'm putting a 15" sub facing the trunk lid here pretty soon. Do you have to take off the metal bracket/frame attached to the inside of the trunk in order to deaden it, or just do it over that?

I laid strips over everything. I heard its better to do decent sized squares instead of long strips.. Either way your doing yourself a favor! Dont be affraid to lay on a second layer. My entire car is double wraped doors are tripple wraped you wont be dissappoited

Thanks a lot guys. Does this affect how loud your system sounds outside of the vehicle? I'll have a 15 pushing 2K watts.
