i noticed that too...i'm thinking i'll either make some kind of rubber gasket out of an inner-tube, or grab some rubber cement and seal it off that way. It doesn't do anything, just makes it look incomplete. it's just a shield anyways, so either way should work.

was it the newer montes that didnt have it? my 04 monte has the triangular opening in that location.

I was wanting to try this FWI, but not one single home improvement or hardware place here carries the ABS plastic pipe. Is there another kind of pipe that would work? I don't think that PVC would hold up to the heat.
