Did you replace the whole exhaust system or just add Flowmaster 40s? I've been hearing that the 3800 sounds bad with just new mufflers, regardless of res or not.

Default removing resonator

I had mine removed this morning . It had a hole in it. The guy welded on a piece of pipe and I will tell you this... sound wise it makes a very little difference. But as far as pick up... well I did notice that when I accelerate now it does pick up faster. I spin my wheels easier than I did before.and the acceleration I noticed conciderably. So would I recommend removing the resonator,,,, YEP.

the only i ever got a raspy sound out of any car or truck i ever owned was when i holowed out the catalitic converters do to they were cloged. i have no resenators on my monty and my mustang. they both sound good it is noticeable when cold start so you know when it is on. and when a love one just hoped in or some one stole it. but if you are wondering if it is going to sound horrible while driving a raspy sound. there is dynomat you can put in the trunk to cut it down. if you are conserned about neighbors going to call the police. all the police will do is ask you to turn it on and ask if you were reving the car.

I test drove an '00 SS today. As soon as I started it, I noticed it sounded "one notch" louder than stock. Not loud or obnoxious at all, but you could just hear the exhaust, not silent like stock cars seem to be. I took a look underneath the back and in place of the factory mufflers I saw two glasspacks. They re-connected the stock tips and you couldn't tell any difference, visually. I wish I had known about the resonator earlier today, so I could have looked for it.

DONT DO IT!!!! haha i had to have mine removed because it corroded, but i had it replaced with a Summit Racing glasspack, and its got a loud, but deep and mellow tone. sounds absolutely menacing WOT. for a $30 muffler, it cant be beat. not even by Flowmaster.

Took mine out, sounded the same. Guess it just depends, because it seems the highly modified guys are saying dont do it. Mabye its an issue with boosted cars
