ORIGINAL: lav74

I had to install an advil dispenser in the car as a supporting mod when I went straight pipes.
Nice!! I could see that too as my Realtek seemed too loud for me with the Dynomax exhaust. The SLP cat is a bit more restrictive but much more freeflowing than stock, keeps my neighbors happy, and got rid of all the drone on the inside of the car.

With straights you do loose some low end but you gain alot of top end.
It just depends what you want.
I used to have a silverado with straight pipes and could keep up with z28's on top end because of the power the striahgts gave me in the high rpm range.

03SS, did you ever try to run wth those Z28's before getting the straight pipes? this car breaks the tires free too easy as it is, so maybea little loss on the low end wouldn't be bad.

yeah my buddy has one
I got a CAI and the exhaust done at the same time so it wasnt all exhasut but before he would leave me by about 4-5 cars from 80-100 and keep pulling
after he would pull me by 1-2 cars from 80-100 and then I would start catching him around 120
but the CAI and exhaust work together so I would reccomend both

and about breaking the tires loose to easy my truck did that too because it had an open diff.
once I got the exhaust on there I had to power brake it to get the tires to spin
from idle to about 3000rpms I had a little less power than I did before I did the exhaust but after 3000rpms it felt like I had a turbo and I was hitting boost it was weird.

What year Z28 is that? When I had my 97 Sierra that ran low 14's. My buddy had a 98 Z28 and I couldn't beat him from a stand still he would be infront of me by a couple cars and then we wouldn't move. I had shorty headers with 2.5" maderal bent stainless steel true dualsback to 2 Delta Flow 40's back to 3.5" tips that was what I had for exhaust when I sold the truck. Sounded real healthy with the cam that was in it. But when my truck was stock with straight pipes I couldn't keep up with thatcar, of course he never gave me lengths from a roll or from a stopand wewouldn'trun out to 120. But as for straight pipes I wouldn't do them on a car like a Monte Carlo. Monte Carlo's need a good sounding exhaust without screaming in your face loud. My tires brake free real easy but I wouldn't put straight pipes on it that is for sure.

In either case you'll have the police knocking on your door constantly from neighbor complaints so this should be a mute issue unless you are building a drag car.
