Default Straight Pipes

Well guys... I been thinking.. because thats the kind of guy I am I guess.

I found this clip that 04 intimidator posted in a site with lots of exhuast clips.. I like this sound.

Straight pipes...

Waht do you guys think? A buddy fo mine had straight pipes and backfired all the time (but he had no cat as well). Would this be too loud? Too "Ricy" sounding? Should I do it? Also, what about power? How will this affect my torque & hp?

Loud as hell sound, but you also loose some horsepower because you don't have the necessary back pressure.

Straight pipes is definately not the way to go.I had to install an advil dispenser in the car as a supporting mod when I went straight pipes. I lasted 2 days of commute. It's obnoxiously loud, unbearable drone, and farts and cackles after 2500rpm. I also have a pretty open system with heads and a big cam, so that probably has a big play in it, but even a stock 3800 will be very loud without a resonator or muffler. You can view the clip in the sights and sounds area to get an idea of what mine sounded like.

I ended up keeping the straight pipes, but installed a resonator after the cat, 6" round 3" straight thru, and 30" long. Magnaflow sells it. This one single muffler doesn't soften the idle at all, but it quiets everything after 2500, and I have zero (0) rasp, no farts, no cackles, no blaring. It's the dream exhaust I've been looking for over 3 years, and it cost me alot to get there.

HTH.

Do you have 13:1 compression ratio? Then there really is no debate.

i'm not concerned about it being too loud.... i had a friend with straight pipes on his mustang... he got rid of them becuase ti was so loud and annoying but it never bothered me.... i rode with him on an hour trip with it once to.

i noticed you got a lot of work done to yours too.. especially like the cam.. thats going to have a big effect on sound.

You can get a THRUSH Stainless Resonator from JEGS for 70-Bucks and Lower that exhaust note for a deep muscle-car sound.

Some people think straight pipes are to loud some don't. On my old S10,V6, 5speed,I had 2.5" pipe all the back to 3" stainless tips with no cat and it sounded pretty good. A lot of people liked it and thought I had a V8 in it. It was pretty loud though. My neighbors hated it and right before I sold the truck got the cops called on me twice in2 days. On a Monte Carlo I wouldn't do it.
