Default POP POP POP when full throttle

I was trying to find a hole in my exhaust the other day (right after cat = new excuse for cat back!!!) and was hearing this pop pop pop when the car was high revved while parking.. sounds like the beginning of this clip...

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/B...ect_694474.htm

What/why is that?

The clip wouldn't load for me for some reason- but why are you revving it high in park?

Re-reading your post. I bet your hitting your rev limiter.

there's a rev limiter about 4k in park (and neutral i think).

Rev limiter... alright so when it goes above the rev limiter it drops it and since I still have my foot on it trys to rev up again, then drops again?? And I was just showing off my car and its exhaust to my friends, and in the process found a leak after my cat so we were trying to find it... plus it sounded cool up till the pops

What rpm were you at? As said above, if you're like 4000 rpm or so and its bouncing and popping- thats youre P/N rev limiter.

IMO there is no reason whatsoever to be running that kind of rpm in neutral with the engine at no load, you're just asking to spin a bearing- or otherwise damage your engine.

edit- just noticed the title said "full throttle"; you do realize its absolutely destroying your engine to be banging off the rev limiter in P/N at wide open throttle right? If you care about your car at all- don't do that anymore...

... noted. Only did it that once, but I was more curious about that video of the drag race where he did it before starting off the line

Ok, got the video to load- that is called a 2 step. The idea behind it is similar to a rev limiter, except the idea is to be able to let the engine sit at wide open throttle with no load for a short period. The reason for this is mainly for turbocharged cars with massive turbo lag, they can go WOT and spool the turbo before the launch so they come out of the hole in boost rather than 100' down the track.

It is also used in drag racing for consistency- they set a certain rpm and push the clutch in (or engage the transbrake on an auto)- and floor it, so the only thing they do when the light goes green is dump the clutch/get off the brakes; so the car launches the same every time.
