98, 3.1 m/c engine smoke after full throttle
Ok, so heres the problem. I have a 98 3.1 m/c , has about 100k miles on it, runs fine. only problem i seem to have is when im driving and press the gas to the floor to past someone or race someone, once i come to a stop my engine will smoke from driver side. looks like it coming from top right behind manifold. I have no idea waht it could be. it will stop after a couple mintute. Has a smell but im not sure what it is. plz help?

Sadly, it's not a lot to go on, but you are leaking coolant or oil. I'm going to GUESS coolant (without having more info). I am guessing the lower intake gaskets are leaking and when the engine is under load and pressure (all because the RPMs are higher and the water pump is working faster/harder) coolant is coming out (as the coolant ports are towards the outside of the heads).
If I am right, you should be able to use a radiator pressure tester, bump it up to about 13lbs (or what ever the radiator cap is rated for) and look for leaks where the lower intake contacts the heads. You will probably find some coolant making air bubbles. If that's the case CHANGE ASAP. Use Fel-Pro's aluminum replacement gaskets.
BTW - a '98 Monte is a 5th gen, not a 4th gen.

No problem jroderick13! Welcome to the forum!
And remember USE AN ALUMINUM REPLACEMENT GASKET!! If you do, you will probably never revisit this again!
My '94 Grand Am with the 3100 is on it's 2nd replacement LIM gasket (when I did it the second time, I wish I knew about the aluminum replacements, otherwise I would have used them). She's pushing 220K and the body rot will probably get her before the LIM gaskets fail again.
