Ordered the K+N intake kit for the 06 Monte today..
06BlackSS: Did your stock airbox have an electronic unit with a metal finned top? When I put in my drop-in, I noticed there was a couple things in there that didn't appear to be intake-related. Of course my 3.9 will be setup somewhat differently, but I was just curious.Like they didn't already have enough electronic boxes in various places.... lol
Your pics make me want to buy one just to see if I can adapt it to my intake. They really do look very similar as far as position goes. The only difference is a sensor or two might be placed differently (as in horizontal vs vertical). hmm.... Now if I only had the dough and a spare weekend... (i'm booked for the next 3 lol!)

osito: I'm afraid the only thing I see on the K&N website for the 2007 Impala with the 3.9 litre is the regular drop-in air filter. This is a stock replacement that will help performance and mileage, but not as much as a full intake that replaces the stock airbox. 33-2334 is the exact same item I put in my 2006 3LT with the 3.9L engine. I saw an increase from 26 to 30 MPG highway, and while the performance difference isn't hugely noticable, there is a bit more there. Your car might take a few miles to get used to the increased flow, but it should adjust within a week, you'll see the best MPG difference about a week later. City driving doesn't get much of a boost from the filter, the main thing in city drivingis to keep the engine from switching to the top end cam (3500 rpm or higher), which takes a lot of extra fuel, but it's where most of the power is. Unless you don't care about MPG and prefer to let the 3.9 strut its stuff.... like me :-D
If you're considering the K&N drop-in replacement don't even hesitate, it's the best out there right now. I picked mine up for like 45$ at a localAdvanced Auto.
I haven't found anyone that makes an intake performance kit for these engines yet. But search around, some Pontiac's and Buick's also had the 3.9L engine, who knows, maybe there's a intake kit made for another car, that will work on ours.

I've had a 2000 SS / 2004 SS S/C & now a 2007 SS and have used the "Drop-in" K&N filter in all of them. I changed to the K&N almost as soon as I got each car, so I really can't comment on what the performancedifference is between the two, but I can say, I have been very happy with the fuel mileage on all the vehicles.
The big thing is that you don't need to change the thing. So you won't get grabbed for $15/$20 for a standard filterevery time you get it serviced. The K&N is supposed to be good for 100,000 miles I think, and for about $10 bucks you can buy the stuff from K&N and clean it yourself.
A good investment in my opinion.

I just installed my CAI K&N kit for my 03 and I am lovin it!
@Red06SS - your car looks awesome - it is coming along very nice! Love the wheels Sideways from Konig right?
I now am in the process of getting my resonator taken out and replaced with a straight pipe. I am also going to do the U bend delete.
