Default New Downpipe & Resonator

I took the Monte to my friend's shop today and had the downpipe and resonator replaced. What a difference it made. No more erratic shifting, no more random misfire at idle (that wasn't thowing a code) and no more rotten egg smell. I replaced the downpipe with a Magnaflow 23405 which eliminated the u-bend and I replaced the resonator with a Magnaflow 120405 glasspack which offers a bit less restriction. The rest of the exhaust system remained factory stock. At idle it is only slightly louder than it originally was, with a lower exhaust note. I'm sure it will get a bit louder once it is broken in, but my intention wasn't to make it loud. At cruising speed it has a nice, mellow tone but it's not so loud that you can't hear yourself think or carry on a conversation. So far I'm quite happy with the results.

Sounds cool, Someday I want to do mine. I need a third income for mod money.

My mod budget isn't that big. I just looked around for the best possible prices I could find in addition to a bit of luck...lol. I picked the parts up off ebay for about half of what they want for them at the popular retail outlets. Everything combined - downpipe, pipe flange, glasspack and gaskets - I have a total of just under $175 into the parts including shipping fees. The labor was a freebie because my friend owed me a favor.

we all need a third income lol.

The only thing I didn't like about the magnaflow downpipes were that they really didn't make the pipe larger in diameter. (I think)

The O.D. of the pipe appeared to be the same as the O.E. but it's not double walled so the I.D. is slightly larger. I don't think it will have any problem handling the flow of a stock or mildly modded engine. The close to stock diameter will also insure no loss of bottom end torque. That was my line of thought when I decided to go with the Magnaflow.
