Magnaflow Direct Fit Cat
Has anyone bought the Magnaflow direct fit cat - part #23405? I'm trying to figure out the pipe diameter and it doesn't seem easy to find. I can get this dirt cheap. Should be a decent downpipe, right?
Well, don't everybody answer at once!
Since nobody had anything to offer on the subject, I went ahead and order one of these. My cost is only $120 Cnd. But it did not work out. I thought Magnaflow was a good namebrand, but this design is **** poor. The problem it that it is not at all designed as illustrated here: http://www.car-sound.com/02product/d...irectfit=23405 The picture seems to illustrate a normal flex pipe, but the one I got used more of a ball joint type socket, which would be fine, but it has an inner sleeve with a 2" diameter. Hard to describe, but bottom line is that this look as restrictive as the OE cat. Maybe more since it is further forward in the exhaust than the ubend - its like having a 2" collector pipe.
Stay away from these. I feel bad for anone who might have bought one of these from an exhaust shop and had it installed, because if you never looked down the neck you'd never know how restrictive this cat is. It would look great installed

It's unfortunate that you had such bad luck with a great company like Magnaflow. It's too bad no one helped you. I guess no one had any experience with this product so you became the guinea pig. Are you going to continue looking for a better flowing downpipe? I thought ZZP performance (or something like that) sells some quality products.
Yeah, I'm still looking. $120 sure was cheap and convenient. If I'm going to have to spring for more, I'm inclined save a bit and just get headers instead. I was planning on adding a power log. We'll see.
Ironically, the parts store I work for stocks a "economy" direct fit converter that looks pretty good, has u-bend delete. But even that one'll cost me $180. I don't know why the magnaflow was so cheap. Its not because of construction quality or finish. Just bad design.

6th Gen ('00-'05): To Magnaflow (again) or not to Magnaflow (again), That is the question.
