Default Little intake idea

Well me and my friend were looking today at my air box and thought why not take the airbox out and just put on a performance filter and forget the whole airbox. Well a trip to autozone and about 20 minutes and we slapped on a whole new performance air filter. As for the CPU we make a custom box and put it where the airbox use to be. The car now accelerates fasters and has a much better sound to it. This was just a idea instad of spending all the money i didnt have on a whole new intake system. I will update with pictures tomorrow

so now you're sucking in all the hot air from the engine bay? you really haven't made any performance gains, just made it a little louder, that's all. i would recommend a FWI or a heat shield of some sort.

You just made yourself a beautiful hot air intake, which regardless what you think you feel, is actually WORSE for your car. (well, the first 5 minutes of driving on a cold day will be beneficial) but other than that, once your engine gets warm, you will be sucking it 200° air and you will just have loud but no actual gains.

If just putting a cone on the end of a tube is all cars needed, they would come from the factory that way, but in reality the car needs COLD air to come in through the intake to work at maximum performance.

Is it just me or is the IAT sensor that goes into the tube not there?

A lot of people do this, but it's mostly people that are running blown setups.
When you're pulling that much air through an intercooled/supercharged setup, then a 20* difference in intake temps is negligible (esp compared to the reduced restriction in air flow), but for an N/A setup I would probably look up some plans on making a fender well intake. Should take all of $10 if you already have the filter and a quick trip to Lowes/Home Depot.
