JMB Fenderwell Intake Brace Cut
#17
They only way you will mess your MAF up with the oil is if you literally soak the filter down. I have been running oiled filters for probably close to 10 years with no problems. I wouldn't worry much about the oil doing anything a little goes a long way.

No worries take your time. Ripping it apart would be a pain, fromt he top view is fine

K&N oils do not flow through the filter onto the MAF. I too have been using them on this car for 10 years now (one for inside the airbox and now the fenderwell intake) and nothing has gone wrong. I have even 're-charged' them myself. You just have to do it right, which is not hard.
@xpage I'll likely get those pics out tomorrow

Well, it's rough cut but it works well. I guess I didn't have my angle grinder or dremel around.
Cover pulled back and filter shown. You can see the larger part of the filter is out about an 1/8 of an inch. Foam gasket around the cover will cure all that ails (not installed on this one).
Right side cuts (with tin snips).
Left side (with sawz-all)
Top view, slightly larger angle, filter pulled back.
"Assembled"
Installation was a bit tight. I remember having to put the hose connector on first, then the cover, then push the K&N filter all the way on until the pipe could not go in any further, then I had to push it into the fenderwell (after it was cut) as far as it would go. At the other end, it took some magic and some bending of the rubber piece but it fit. I was then able to pull the pipe out of the filter a bit to center everything and to adjust the angle of the pipe to fit it all in as close as possible. With some foam gasket around the black cover, and only when everything is lined up, then screw in the cover, if at all (mine is still loose).
