Default JMB Fenderwell Intake Brace Cut

Greetings!

Say, I read that the JMB Fenderwell Intake requires a cut of the fender brace. Which part is that? I only have an hour to install and it would be nice to see some pics of, if not cut, then uncut fender brace.

I don't know what to cut here.

Within the fender there is a brace that needs cut for the filter to fit I believe. I'm not for sure as I don't have the JMB intake. I wanted to purchase one but I didn't want to cut up my inner fender for an intake.

Depending on what tools you have available, you should be able to install it in less than an hour.

I will be cutting but is it so the filter itself can fit or the pipe can fit?

How do you get to it? Under the hood or in the wheel well?

How much needs to be cut? All of it?

Why do the w-bodies need a brace and other don't (likely the brace is relocated).

This is the only image I could find of my fender area, but I assume they are talking about the brace that I circled in red..

I'm not for sure what needs cut as I don't have that intake and I haven't seen many people on here that do have it installed, and are still active.

Hopefully somebody who actually has the intake or knows more about it can chime in. I'd hate to see you trim the wrong brace.

Pretty sure the brace circle in red is the one that needs to be cut. By the looks of the intake kit, it looks like the filter sits in that area inside the fender

I made a custom one for my silver SS a while back but with 3" piping. I was able to fit the piping through the brace and down into the fender without cutting anything because of it being 3" lol
Here's the only pic I have but anyways it's a whole lot different than the JMB for sure

Ok, so after many months on considering what to do, I went ahead and started to install with intent to cut the fender brace. When I got to it, I dryfit everything just to see how much of the brace I needed to remove. Looking close, I saw the filter was actually being stopped by the metal hole edges shown in the red circle above. So, I took my trusty sawzall and hacked out about a quarter inch around the hole in the shape of the filter. It turns out, everything fits almost perfectly! The metal surround that blocks the engine bay air from the fender air fits nicely on the top and is out about a quarter inch on the bottom. A little foam gasket and it's good to go! It sounds great and I can feel the difference for sure!

2 hours total (including thinking time and finding the tools time).

I did the exact same thing you did fitting the pipe though the brace, but i had some serious water intake issues. It wasnt actually sucking in large quantities of water as much as just too much moisture when it would rain. Have you ever had this issue? I have just shortened my intake and now it is sitting on top of the PCM back in the engine bay. I would love to got back to the fenderwell, but im afraid of fouling out my brand new spark plugs by having the engine missfire everytine it rains.

I noticed when I am doing any work in the fenderwell behind the splash shield after driving in the rain, anything below the brace is wet. Mine is above the splash shield and above the brace. No issues and I live in a very very rainy area of North America. It rained some 2 inches today.

You are also lower to the ground. How much have you lowered your vehicle?

I have it lowered about 2 inches all around. I noticed the filter was just slightly wet after a good hard rain, but when i took the intake piping apart it was dry as a bone, yet my engine was still missing. Particularly in cylinder 5
