Alright so an update on the crossover gasket dilema i posted a little while back. I got the broken stud out and replaced it with a bolt and knut. Now as for the gasket when i put the new one on it was too big and slid right off the pipe. Is it supposed to be like that? Should it be that big conpared to the old one? In any case the popping noise is still there. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? My next step is to just have an exhaust shop cut out the pipe completely and weld a solid pipe in its place and put a heat shield ove it. That or change out the manifolds with headers. And i dont want to do that by any means but im a freak when it comes to noises and i want to get this fixed.

 

I just want to know if that doughnut gasket is supposed to be that big or not. If it is ill try it and see what happens. If not then ill have to weld a straight pipe in its place and cut the flanges. I dont want to tho

 

The replacement gasket should be the same size/shape as the original. Make sure there is no residual debris from the old gasket on the mating surfaces. A coat of Permatex (high temp) Copper Gasket Maker will seal minor imperfections in the mating surfaces/gasket.

Edit: When you tighten the bolts do it in increments until you obtain correct torque.
