my engine is starting with a higher idle recently, around 1600-1700, but it did not used to start like this and about 2 weeks ago the check engine light came on for 3 days than went away, does my computer need to be recalerbrated?

How many miles ? What modifications ? Any exhaust work ?

Sounds like an Idle Air Control motor issue to me- but your first step is to have the check engine codes read. Most auto parts stores will do this for you for free. Head to Advance Auto or Autozone or your local chain and ask them to read your codes. Even though the check engine light is off now, the codes are stored and can be read. Write down the codes and post them here and we can help you more.

 

Is it an all-the-time thing? Your car will idle higher when it's warming up and will idle normally at operating temperatures. I'm not so sure it should be idling that high, though.
