So if you made more then that, I would say you're doing pretty good.

Also, I would expect a stock 3400 to make something around 135whp just for a reference.
isn't it about 15% drivetrain loss so like 153 or so?

I think i'll save up for headers then too

Our cars usually lose about 20-25% due to drivetrain loss. I've seen a stock 3400 Grand Am put down 137whp this year, and back in the day a guy swapped in a 3400 into his 5th gen Monte and modified the 3400 and it put out 144whp (he was hoping for 160whp). It worked out about right too because he ended up running the 1/4 in 15.8 which is about right for a stock 3800 (usually make 150-160whp, but I have seen a stock one make 145whp).

Like I said, aim low and if it ends up being more powerful because it's a factory freak or something, you'll be happy with the results instead of let down. Even the new Corvette ZR1 loses about 21% drivetrain loss. I believe it was Motor Trend that dynoed one and it made 505whp (638 crank hp).

Swap a Manual tranny in your Monte though and then you will have less drivetrain loss, plus it'll be more fun

Absolutely. I think it would be kinda cool though if you went the turbo route on your Monte. Not many people do it, and I think it would be really unique (not to mention fast). The heads on the 3400's are MUCH better then 3800 heads too, so there's potential there.

Whatever you do, I'm going to be keeping an eye on your Monte. I like where you're going with it.

Thanks man, hopefully when I get out of college a Turbo will be a little easier to buy. I'm going to do the small stuff first, ill free up a bit of power too once I put the stock rims back on, the current ones are pretty heavy
