i have a 305 monte with a 2 barrel carb. i had a flowmaster delta 40 series put on and absolutely nothing. that was 130 dollars. i hollowed out my cat, and still nothing. i then decided to have a cut out put on it and got a light rumble that sounds like crap cuz its to light. that cost me 140 dollars.[:@]any suggestions? i dont wanna get a 4 barrel carb right now but even then it wont sound good untill i'm on it. i would buy some crapy headers, i found a pair for 125 bucks. but i dont want to spend a dump load of money for a new exhaust system either. i have seen cars with headers and mufflers cumming out directly under the car around the middle of the car. is this legal?

 

you could definitely have the exhaust dumpout the side/middle of the car, that would pretty sweet imo butto be 'completely legal' you will have to have a fully functional cats AND mufflers/glasspacks of some sort. if you want something loud and legal, go with some glasspacks and headers, that's about as loud as you are gonna get. imothecat makesvery littledifference in the sound. there are no baffles etc in it,so next time, don't hollow it out.

 

The flowmaster 40's were to quite? My friend has an 86 his has an h-pipe and the 40's pluse headers and sounded pretty darn mean!

 

i'll definately look into that. side pipes with glasspacks and headers. sounds like it would be alright. thanx

 

ok...78 monte carlo 305 v8 5.7l. with a 2 barrel carb. scrap the headers for now, but what do you think about throwing just a glasspack on? i'm just looking to hava a decent sounding exhaust.
