Got tired of the stock air box and lack of awesome intake noise. My solution? A trip to the local auto parts store and about 45 minutes of my time removing the old and installing the new. Spent about 75$ all together including the 6" K&N cone filter.

Fortunately (yet unfortunately) my Monte has been in a front end accident prior to me owning it. While all the damage was repaired, they never replaced the fog light on the drivers side. So I took advantage of that and positioned the filter right inside the fog light opening. Keeps it away from heat and in a great spot to suck in fresh air!

Yea, I was worried about that. I'm going to rig up something to catch water so it doesn't get too wet when I drive in the rain. I'll keep it updated.

 

you could always do something like this to fend off the water

Or watch out for snow drifts if you live in that part of the country that gets the white stuff. It could pack in there while you are trying to blow your way out of your driveway.

 

Thanks for the link Trewyn, that's definitely an option. May try to fabricate a scoop/funnel of sorts first though. We'll see how it goes.

No white stuff here.. I'm all the way down here in the Sunshine State. All I've got to worry about is rainy season and the occasional hurricane!

Kind of a random question, but has anyone every tried to make some sort of duct (or anything similar) to direct the air in from the lower grille directly to the filter? I don't think it'd be to hard to fiberglass, and i assume it'd work great since it could be formed to have a vertical bend to protect against sucking up water, however i've never heard of anyone doing it.

 

there's been a few that have done it, so it'd kind of work like a ram air hood type deal, the only probably is it will probably have to sealed off so the suction would be from the hose, if you do it just on the end of a cone, the cone will just suck air in through the sides.
