Default electric exhaust cutouts?

i have a 86 monte ss 350 /crate 340 hp 380 torque small block engine with a set of hooker long tube headers and true dual exhaust with flowmaster 44. i was curious what electric exhaust cut outs are for. how they work, and if i put them on my car would i be able to change the sound of the car from loud now to louder and vice verser. also would i damage anything. thanks

They are for making the car louder and for making a few more HP at the track really. Yes, it will change the sound of your car. It should not damage anything as long as the outlet is not directed toward wiring, tubing, fuel lines, body panels. They are usually positioned slightly downward to avoid any trouble.

Do they tend to leak. I just want to have fun and turn them on when I cruise into a show

No leaks if they're welded in good.

Jegs, Pypes, Dougs, Race ready, Quick time are just a few I can think of that are electric. Not sure which are best.
I think that Zippy02 has electric cut outs on his Monte..hopefully he sees this post and responds.

I think I am going to get these. Race ready cutouts look good. I don't know I have to try to search more info. I don't want some crap cutouts that start to leak or the valve can't close due to pressure from the motor

i only use QTP cutouts. i have them on the monte and the cts-v and they have never let me down. they seal great, always work correctly and best part is you can get them remote operated now as well! if you buy a set get QTP and look at buying them from maryland speed as they seem to have the best prices (there internet prices are a little high but if you call they will give a better price)

It all depends how you mount them etc. I've never had any issues scraping and both my cars sit low.
