Default Which downpipe to get?

Hey guys, well now that the intake gaskets are done i can now start thinking about upgrades for the car Its a 2000 SS and was wondering which mod i should do first that would be beneficial? Mods im thinking so far is the CAI Cold air kit and then wanted to do a complete exhaust that wont kill the bank. I know the downpipe is one of the most restrictive things on these cars. But i see they offer 4 of them? Which one would be the one to get? I would also want the Cat with it and see they use magnaflow high flow cats which is good. For the muffler i want a deep tone but not too raspy that it sounds like a civic. On my 86 i had flowmaster 40's and was thinking of using them on here. I want to delete the resonator aswell. Also is it better to use 2 mufflers or 1 muffler and run 2 pipes out of it?

You will want a 2.5" dp. Honestly you would be farther ahead buying headers they come with a dp. There will always be rasp with these cars there's no way around it that I know of. If you delete the resonator it will get very raspy.

I think the flow master 40's would work I personally use Thrush Turbo mufflers, with cat and res delete. On idle it's quiet but when you push her she's nice and loud. Also the price of Thrush is much cheaper and I've read quality is just as good as magnaflow for a fraction of the price.

I've read a few post about having one muffler and 2 pipe come out and that it's a good sound I just don't have any personal experience on it. I'll post the video of my car on a Dyno so you can hear it but the video doesn't really do the car justice like in person.

Also I agree headers would be way better than a DP

best description for the sound in person would be a stock car sound.

Justin that setup would sound good on a v8 but on the 3800 it won't sound no where near that good. It will sound like crap lol. Only good sounding 3800 is either a quiet exhaust with a real loud supercharger wine or a turbo 3800. Just my opinion.

If you guys have emission testing you will need to add a CAT.

I assume with the snow up there, you should get a stainless steel to avoid rust.

2.5, SS with or without a CAT.

I'm actually having a highflow cat installed while I'm away because I have E-testing when I get home

Exhaust doesn't sound as good on any v6 cause it doesn't sound like a v8 but headers will give you a little more power than intake and exhaust so I would lean towards header also there a good mod list to follow I think bumpin made the list but not sure i think the list is under modding a 3800 safely some one else will point you there with a sticky ..
