If you have any doubts about the black gasket maker working get the copper instead. I used to uncork my headers when I'd go to the track and used it to seal the collectors instead of buying gaskets all the time. I never had a leak.

Are you sure the leak is at that flange? If you still have the factory resonator, odds are that is the source of the leak. Granted, you're in Florida, so the res should be as bad as one in my location.... But they commonly go bad at the seam.

Is the thread good ? Does the bolt tighten all the way ?
It's possible that you have 2 bad gaskets...I've purchased a part & it was bad & took it bad and the 2nd one was bad also...Wish you good luck on resolving this problem & I know that you won't give up... Does your auto parts store only show one gasket for your connection ?

Like Mod `Mike posted, they do have some amazing sealants for heat out there, but I understand that may not be a permanent solution (?)
I was going to post ~>WELD that sucker on (LOL), but really I would not ~> GOOD LUCK 4-Sure
Yep everything is good space im going to try the sealant first lol

I'm glad my DP could help your car out, you last cat was it some rough shape. I've never seen one with chunks that fall out.

I'm not gonna lie, the quality of the gasket that I got from ZZP (and sent Frank) wasn't the greatest. Personally, I've never had lucky with any gasket that wasn't from the dealer. If I were you, I'd probably live with the leak until Monday and drop by the dealer and pick up an OEM gasket. My guess is that would solve the problem.

I used Felpro gaskets when I installed my downpipe and haven't had any problems with leakage.

Edit: Are you torquing the nuts? I took mine down initially to 12 then a final torque of 24.

If you overtighten them you do run the risk of warping the flange. If it is warped (but not severe) you can probably get it to seal by making a gasket sandwich - a bead of high temp gasket maker on the flange mating surfaces and a gasket in the middle.

Perhaps the dude at Autozone should learn about the products he sells before advising customers as to what they can or can't be used for. But then again, the only thing the sales people at Autozones around here are knowledgeable about are air fresheners and chrome stick on accessories.

From the Permatex web site:

Permatex® Ultra Copper® Maximum Temperature RTV Silicone Gasket Maker

OEM specified. Highest operating temperatures for 4-cylinder, turbocharged or high-performance engines. The most advanced, high temp RTV silicone gasket available. Sensor-safe, low odor, noncorrosive. Superior adhesion. Three times more oil resistant than conventional silicones; eight times more flexible than cut gaskets. Temperature range -75°F to 700°F (-59°C to 371°C) intermittent; resists auto and shop fluids and vibration.

Suggested Applications: Exhaust manifolds/ headers, valve covers, oil pans, timing covers, water pumps, thermostat housings
