Default Cold Air 305 V8?

I'm buying an 87 Monte Carlo SS and I want to do cheap mod's in the near future.I posted a thread on here for exhaust set-ups but now I'm dumb founded at what to do for a Cold Air set-up.I found one on Jeg's pre-made I guess it's a Spectre set-up but guys on other forums said that while it looks good it isn't as functional as say a custom set-up that's pulling colder fresh air from the outside.I really don't wanna spend more than $300 and I don't want some cheap custom design that isn't giving me any performance gains (even if it's only 5-10hp).Any suggestions would be nice pictures, videos ect. I just don't want to run into any problems with hydro-lock or pulling hot air from the radiator/engine..

pretty mutch it would help to get fresher air into the intake almost every car gets some heat transfer when having a cold air setup.but the volume of air braught in acomidates the exchange. the setup frome spector looks like it wil help with keeping air flowing plus having a bit cooler and a better look under the hood

I think the top cover from a 90s northstar cadillac will fit on top of the carb. Then you can run piping from that to behind the front bumper and get all the cold air you need. Another set up is when you take out the headlights and put tubing to run to the headlights with an in line filter, that isnt cheap though.
