Default Catalytic Converter Removal/Bypass

Hey everyone,

I have a 95 Monte Carlo Z34, and was wondering if I should eliminate my catalytic converter on my car, and weld in a straight piece of piping.

I know the car only has an upstream O2 sensor so this shouldn't really be a problem should it?

Also, will the car benefit from this?

Thanks everyone for your responses!

It's illegal and if you have even just visual emissions inspections in your state you will fail. Also a lot of exhaust shops could be fined up to $10k doing this for someone.

IDK how OBD-1 cars handle the cat being gone though.

You shouldn't have any codes pop up from doing it. Its gonna have to be done by you though, the majority of shops will laugh at you when asking them to do it .

why are you wanting to remove the cat to begin with?

Is it bad? The car will be pretty loud without it and like Chibi stated, you will fail emissions
