i wash my car at least once a week, and take it throught the conveyor one with underbody every two weeks at least. its not that.

my first one was rusty as heck, so the dealer replaced with oem. the bill said it was 800 plus. 3 months after that i have this loud a** ping, i beleive coming from the resonator, maybe the cat. well they told me theres nothing wrong and its suppose to do that. somehow ive never heard any other car out there make the same noise at red lights, drivethoughs, and a double click when i take off.

somethings loose or clogged, i know it. i think when they replaced, they forgot some hanger or heatshield.

anyways, long story short i want to jack it up and cut everything off with a sawzaw. no lol
I've just never heard of anybody rust through 2 exhaust systems in so short a time- I mean heck, your car is only 3 years old (ok, well maybe back in the 50's or 60's). But there are a lot of people that don't even wash their cars- and just let the rust sit, and they don't rust through that quickly. Definitely possible that they goofed something up in the replacement process- or that something they put on is defective, but I'd have it back there ASAP if it were me (should still be under warranty right?).

no bumper to bumper, lol

you would fugure that they warranty there own parts for at least a year right. im just taking it off and scraping it. first im going to beat it up with a hammer and a sawsaw.

You're right, the 3.5 comes stock with 210HP versus the 3800 with 200HP stock, although the 3800 comes with 230 lbs of torque versus the 3.5 with a mere 214 lbs of torque. So the 3800 is quicker off the line due to more torque, and a slightly lighter body, not to mention the N/A 3.8 comes with 3.23 gears in the transmission versus the 3.5 that has 2.93 gearing I believe, and although the 3.5 has more top end power, it has a speed limiter that kicks in around 105-110 where the 3.8 kicks in at 118.

Just wanted to make you aware that the 3.5 and 3.8 are actually very similar, but the 3800 still edges it out slightly.

I'm not so sure on the 3.9...I think the 3.9 is slightly faster than the 3800 in all aspects. The 3.9 is different, in that it puts out 240 crank HP and 240 lbs of torque, the gearing of the transmission is still less than that of 4t65e, which is what the 3.8 runs on, so the 3.9 is at a disadvantage there. Also, the 3.9 operates on the 7th generation Monte Carlo body, which weighs 250 lbs more than the 6th generation body.

All these factors combined, the 3.9 and 3.8 maintain fairly similar 0-60 times, both measuring between 7 and 8 seconds, but the 3.9 should edge out the 3.8 by just a few tenths of a second.

Now the 3.9 still has a speed limiter that kicks in before the 3.8, but if both speed limiters were removed, I believe the higher top end power of the 3.9 would let it reach a higher top speed than the 3.8. So, there you have it.

ok ok ok

so i went to Summit Racing today and picked my self up and SLP cat back system. bumpin96monte seems to be wize and likes it.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLE-31028M/

i hope i made a good choice. this kit eliminates the resonator and features Loudmouth II series mufflers that are more mellow than the older style and 304 stainless.

im going to my buddys dads house tommorow or monday to throw it on.
can anybody tell me if im going to need extra hangers or anything. my car came with single exhaust and this is dual. the guy at the couter told me that i didnt, so i just want to make sure b4 i take the old one off and cant put this one back on.

??????????????????????????????????????

thanks

You really bought the SLP exhaust system?! That's what I'm getting for my car some time next month, but I have the 3.8. You'll have to let me know how it sounds, sorry I can't be of assistance on the whole needing hangers thing, but I'm confident you made a good choice buying SLP.

here are some pics of member RickAKATed10 that he posted, he has an SS so this is pretty close to what you'd be doing on your monte, hope this helps... bottom pic should be first and the top pic is the last, sorry, couldn't get them copied and pasted in the right order. he changed over his mufflers to summit race mufflers... something I'm really thinking of doing in the near future??

here is the thread that he started when he was making his decision for the change over....https://montecarloforum.com/forum/sh...eferrerid=5546
