well, it again happened to me 3 times today! Over past few months would happen maybe once every couple weeks.... but just started past few days happening more often and now today was the worse. Before I left work wouldn't start, waited 2-3 minutes and started. After work same thing... maybe 2-3 minutes. Had to make a stop for stuff on way home and again when i returned it wouldn't start.... 5 minutes later it worked.

About the weather issue someone else mentioned high humidity, well opposite here, it's -1 C and sucks to sit in car and wait, LOL.

So I can pretty much predict that when i go out later tonight it will do it again.... I went over this thread again reading suggestions and will try holding in start position and see if that helps (I never tried that, just basically waited 30 seconds and kept trying and eventually within 2-3 minutes its always started..... so frustrating!!!!!

I'm holding off taking to my mechanic, can't afford the $500-1200 to probably waste as it looks like most people didn't have any luck... and don't have that money to spend really....

will keep you updated and see how it goes over next few days.....

So, I disabled passlock by hardwiring the appropriate resistors into the ignition switch following the instructions on this forum. Still does the same thing!

At this point I have tried the following with no success:

1) Changed BCM module (twice)
2) Bypassed Passlock
3) Checked all fuses
4) Tried the spare key

Nothing works. I still get intermittent turn key, does nothing, hold key in start position for about 45 seconds, starts.

I'm not sure what else to do. I don't get a Security light or anything. My next step is to change the starter. What do you guys thing? I'm so frustrated by this issue.

Smile loving my car

I did everything you have done before me mechanic, the wiz, figured it has to be starter! It was! The little thing at the end had a glitch. He changed it and it hasn't a problem since. AWESOME!! And I'm loving my car!

Cool love my car

I'm telling you the Chevy dealers said it WAS NOT starter cause the code didn't come up! Me mechanic took a look and asked what I had done. I could do NOTHING else except for change starter! Now it GREAT. I hated my car for a while. Now she good as new. I sure hope this helps!it did mine!

I took the car into my father's mechanic yesterday and the car for once exhibited the starting issue in a mechanic's presence. Right away he suggested it was the starter but he said before he changes it he's going to do some more diagnostics and let me know. After reading your reply (and a bunch of others like it throughout the forums) I'm going to tell him to go ahead and change the starter if he hasn't found anything else.

I too have been hating my car for some time because of this problem. If I can resolve it I'll be thrilled. I'll update the board once I've changed the starter.

Success! Changing the starter solved the problem! After many aggravating months of troubleshooting and hundreds of dollars needlessly wasted on diagnostics and unnecessary BCM replacement/reprogramming my car finally starts consistently and reliably. I can finally enjoy driving my car again.

i'm having a similiar issue. but it involves the "Security" light CONSTANTLY on and my dash lights are totally DIMMED. I also noticed my Engine Coolant Temp gauge isn't working. I tried replacing the sensor, it works like 2 days then quits for a week...

I tried hooking up a car starter to my 01 monte ss. I think the module was bad, and i'm pretty much fed up and took all the wires out. taped everything up, so its cleaned up again. I did try using a Security Bypass Module (as instructed for the install) but i have removed that also. So everything is back to factory, but now my security light is constatnly on... i'm starting to worry my car won't start soon like everyone else has had as a big issue.

But like i mentioned, the security light is now on and i just want my baby working 100% again.

I'm not really down with the idea of a $400-$600 BCM. now if i have to replace anything on the igniton that doesn not require re-programming. That is not an issue at all. Its just i don't have the proper equipment for re-programming the BCM but i was reading about "relearning the resistance code" being leave it in the "on" position for 10 min, turn off, (repeat 3 times). if thats all it takes to "re-learn the resistance code, i can handle that one.

Any help/input would be appreciated guys!

Hello all, Im going to look around some more but I had/have somewhat of the same issue. I think? My woman went out to start MY car, for you see, HER Crapda MPV has a blown gasket and is sittng in the garage, so were down to 1 car for now and so far shes managed to pop the window out of the front track, screw up the door latch mechanism and allow our son to pull down the carpet under the glovebox. and she constantly tells me how much she hates it (my car) but she still hasnt started walking yet. anyway its a 96 and the car wouldnt turn over, she told me, I went out and it would light up, radio on and everything else but wouldnt turn over. I went inside the house discouraged. then I thought about the little push button on the trim under the dash. I forget where it was wired to ( as I recently had it all apart for a multifunction switch replacement) but as I pushed on it I felt a little resistance then it 'clicked'.....car started right up. 2 days later Im driving and the security light comes on for 10-15 seconds ( I know this because after I check mirrors I check my guages) then it went off and has been since. I thought this may be a kill switch or something? I also tried to start it in N and P but neither worked until I pushed the button.
