Default Wow, NOT impressed with fuel mileage so far...

I have an 06 with the 3.9, I have burned through two tanks of gas so far, and both measurements gave me about 21.8 mpg. 80% of my driving is on the highway with cruise set to about 72 mph. Am I going too fast, because I find even this speed painfully slow...

I'm from Canada, and just returned from a trip to Florida. I have an 07 SS with the V8 and got over 23 mpg overall. This is based on the trip computer in the car, which I'm sure measures the MPG based on the U.S. gallon which is smaller than our Canadian Gallon. This would compute to over 30 MPG on our Canadian gallon, which is just as good as I was getting on my 3.8 Supercharged 04 model. The Canadian MPG estimate on the cars build sheet calls it at 36 MPG highway, but I'm more than happy with what I got. My SS has that cylinder de-activation stuff on it, which must help on long trips.

Is your car brand new, or have you already got miles on it?? I noticed that my Fuel Mileage actually was getting better on my return trip home, andI have found as"NEW" cars break in,will continue to improve usually up to about the 10,000 mile mark. I would like to see the MPG go higher, and hopefully it will, but even at what it gets now, I'm happy.

I am happy with my 22.3 overall average. I also do a lot of highway driving.

All I can guess is the mileage is the trade-off for the 242 hp and the VVT Roller engines.

I have an Escort that averages 30 mpg but has no gitty-up. I'm more than glad to sacrafice the 8 extra miles for the power

well, in a way I guess this is nice to hear, I guess there is nothing wrong with my car...Part of the justification for getting this car with the wife was that I would make up alot of the increased payment with gas savings over my 4.0 ford ranger...looks like I have some explaining to do! Only getting 4 mpg more than the truck! I know the "estimated" mpg's are never accurate, but I don't know how they get away with them being so far away from reality.

try the next time to use the cheap gas and see where ya come out. I know in mine it is not a pretty site. I have to have at least 92 or better to get good mpg.

Zip is exactly correct. For every mile over 60 MPH you start to loose 1 MPG. So slow down....or otherwise live with the fact that you have 242 HP and a huge 3.9 V6 under the hood. Jeez.

Now I do have a question. You did look at the sticker when you purchased the car right? Where it tells you ESTIMATED MPG? They are rated at 20/29 so you are right in the middle. But it depends largely on how you drive....full throttle starts or stabbing the throttle while on highway. All this kills MPG.

Oh BTW my '06 LTZ is averaging 22-23 MPG with mixed city/hgwy and I'm totally satisfied with that.

My LT3 is getting the same average as James and most of my driving
is under 55 MPH : (
To much A1A traffic....To many cars, not enough `Space : )
Retired People driving side by side racing each other at 35 MPH
in a 55 MPH Zone.
Space is behind them & resist bump drafting or doing a Kevin Harvick : )
and knocking them out of the way
Patience : )

i dont really go by miles per gallon...i go by miles per tank of gas...on the highway i get about 450-500 miles on a tank of gas (best vehicle i've ever had on gas) in town i get about 300 miles on a tank of gas...this isn't so great..but its still better than anything i've had...and i still like to hit the gas pretty hard sometimes
