There's an MC in Enumclaw, WA in which I'm very interested, but the dealership has bad reviews, so I'm not driving 3 hours to find out it's not as described.

The color is awesome though.

I like that color too, but I would pass on that one. I avoid dealers, I don't trust them and sell price is higher than through a private seller. Keep checking Craigslist. If you want a LS with a 3400 here's one in Centralia, WA with low miles for $1800:

2003 monte carlo. 85,000 miles!)

Or this '01 SS in Portland for $2600. Bet you could get it for $2000: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/5860400892.html

A couple have touched on it, but I'd like to reiterate. That first 25k miles as a rental is a kiss of death for that thing IMO. I wouldn't consider buying a rental at all. People just don't treat rental cars well and others just plain abuse them. Look at some of the crazy stuff people do with them on youtube, and it'll certainly turn you off to it.

The ONE glaring piece of info revealed on CarFax:

From: October 15, 2005 -to- December 15, 2005 it sat ... un-bought ... by anybody after accumulating a mere 45 miles in two months.

Because the Dealer couldn't find a buyer, ... they settled for what they could get at auction.

That, ... in and of itself ... is a sad commentary on that Monte!

I'very owned 4 gen. 6s. I bought a 2000 SS with 134K miles 6 weeks ago for $800. Granted, it had issues (EVAP canister, heater core, brakes and tires, oxidized paint, general tune up), but the body and interior were good. $600 for parts and tires, some rubbing compound and 20 hours labor the car should now sell for around $2,800. I'd keep looking.
I never felt like I overpaid for my Monte, until You posted about them available for low prices and willingness to work on em

I am still happy with the MSTR3SS but at those prices might be able to get Angela a MSTRESS of her own

A trip to the coast and pick up a deal would be a win/win for us

Keep me in mind if you see any Montes for sale

It's exactly the type of MC that I'm seeking, but I'm only finding beaters.
