Why doesnt this site consider a 7th gen not a 6th gen

I just call it a 7th gen. IDK what you really consider it, but yes, the "7th gen" does have many similar things to the 6th, however, it is different in a lot of ways too. I've read that even the quarter panels ARE different, even though they look the same, they are shorter. Plus like other have mentioned, there were suspension changes, style changed, interior changes, engine changes, etc. I'll stick with calling it a 7th gen.

I owned a 5th generation from 2000 to 2005 then went to the 6th generation SS from 2005 till 2 weeks ago. Now I have a 7th generation SS and to me looking at both cars from the side they look the same, however when I press the accelerator defiantly not the same. Too me their 2 different cars.

My opinion> 6.5 Gen all the way. If you don't like the .5 then round it to 6.
Stepping up a generation denotes major redesign, particularly of the body style. As nice as the 06-07s are, the share their body lines with the 6th gens. Adding engine options, changing minor exterior and interior styling isn't enough in my book. If the rereleased the monte next year with new engine and grills, would we go ahead and call it an 8th? Probably not.
P.S> As a side observation, I notice those of us with 6th gens prefer calling them 6.5s and those with 06-07s prefer 7th gen. Hmmmm... funny that!

For me.....I'd call it a Monte Carlo and I love em all.....mine.....yours....his.....hers.....theirs. ...
But in all seriousness, I always thought that a complete styling change is what denoted a new generation of a car. We have a 2nd gen bird, 73. Totally different from the 1st and the 3rd. To me that says different generation. You know it's a bird, but you also know from any angle of the car that it's different from prior years. But yet, still badged a firebird. But that's just my take on the generation thing.

So ... if the 2006-2007 are, indeed, a different generation than the 2000-2005s ... we have SEVERAL more generations.....
#1 ... 1970-1971 ... turn signals in the front bumper
#2 ... 1972 ... turn signals moved to between grill and headlights; extra chrome strip accent across rear panel ... definite redesign work
#3 ... 1973-1975 (body style change) ... round headlights, one on each side
#4 ... 1976-1977 ... dual rectangular headlights on each side ... MAJOR front redesign
#5 ... 1978-1979 (body style change) ... one headlamp on each side
#6 ... 1980 ... dual rectangular headlights on each side with turn signal moved to underneath the headlights, not next to them as with the previous 2 years. ALSO ... dashboard changed to include wood grain accents, which were NOT available the previous 2 years
#7 ... 1981-1982 (body style change) ... only Sport Coupe (SC) and Landau Coupe (LC) models available
#8 ... 1983-1986.5 ... SC ("boxy") and SS models available
#9 ... 1986.5-1988 ... LS ("rounded/euro") and SS models available
#10 ... 1995-99
#11 ... 2000-05
#12 ... 2006-07
But ... the general consensus seems to be the following breakdown:
#1 ... 1970-1972
#2 ... 1973-1977
#3 ... 1978-1980
#4 ... 1981-1988
#5 ... 1995-99
#6 ... 2000-7
