Default Weight Reduction

Hey guys.

I have about 180 lbs of stereo equipment in my trunk, and i can really notice how my mpg's are struggling. Anybody know some basic mods that can be done to maybe drop 200 - 250lbs off the total car weight?

Thanks!

Well spare tire is obvious. I mean if you really wanted to go hard core, carbon fiber or fiber glass, i know the montes are pure metal beasts. im thinking, well if you have no friends, like me, you could take out rear seats. Some light racing seats. Other than that, not much really.

I had the back seats out, but just put them back in because I always found myself needing them.

I think looking for CF and fiberglass parts are your best bet then. Mabye even some light weight alluminum rims. The ones you have now are probably some of the heaviest right now.

I lost 1 mpg with my new system. I feel your pain. I have 250-300 lbs added. Still averaging 23.5mpg on 93 octane.

WTF? If you can drop enough money for that much equipment, the gas prices shouldn't worry you.

As far as the question though: spare tire and jack is really your only option.

You may also think of dieting. Personally that would be about 50 lbs of weight reduction for me.

Yea, an easy 45 lbs of excess weight here.
I'm not happy with the loss of mpg, but I'm not going backwards in my upgrades.
The latest weight loss for my Intimidator SS was installing the big brake kit. The dual piston calipers are aluminum, and altho I didnt weigh them, they must be at least 5 lbs lighter than stock each. Bigger, better, and lighter. WIN, WIN, WIN!
I also removed the child seat mounts and the center seat belt from the rear seat. Another 5-10lbs there.
Never used my spare and jack, but as soon as I remove it, I'll have a flat!
