Came across the US person (engine in a 80s Regal which is why the engine bay looks funny) working with Johnson on FB today - figure Id post the image here as it looks like these fit with no modification to the block's 'buckets' at all.

Thanks bumpin, a picture is worth a thousand words, nice looking build. Appears to be adjustable race rockers?
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, they kinda look like the old Harland Sharp adjustables. Dude has a pretty hardcore build though - those aftermarket aluminum heads alone were probably well north of $2k.

Am I seeing it right on the heads that the injector holes are filled with JB Weld?

Sounded like he got them used, so they were probably machined out for SC injector holes originally. He's running it on a turbo setup, so its got a NA style manifold with the injectors in the manifold instead.

Thumbs up

Update....
Finally pursued repair, opened the top end only to find the lifters and valve train okay. Unfortunately, borescope inspection through the spark plug holes shows piston in cylinder #6 does not move when engine is turned over by hand likely indicating a broken connecting rod, or rod cap came off. It's a hard decision, but it looks like the end of the road for "Black Knight II". Much learned from this experience that I hope to never encounter again, but the biggest lesson learned is to check the cylinders first. Although the knock was loud, surprisingly the engine did run.
Special thanks to bumpin96monte for your guidance and the educational experience that if nothing else has made me a better shade tree mechanic for my effort.

Sorry to hear - that's really unfortunate!

So now what? Done with the Monte? Or time for a new engine and send it?

Hi Jason,
This is the 5th gen 6 Monte for me and it may be the last. The intent was to restore it to the same condition as past gen 6's including "Black Knight" which helped me earn MOTM Jan 2016, but the fact that one piston doesn't move while all the others do is pretty much a death sentence. Done properly a rebuild, or replacement with a used engine would be in order which is just not equitable. Sadly, everything has an expiration date and poor maintenance by previous owner(s) has expedited that date. Monte's are a hobby for me and this car is not needed. I bought this car as a project for $600 with 131k on it 5 years ago. It had a leaking heater core, bad vapor canister, and oxidized paint. I replaced those parts as well as nearly the entire front and rear suspension, brakes, cooling system, carpet, trunk mat and the usual known gen 6 problems before it left me stranded 60 miles from home one night. It hasn't been a good relationship and considering the diminishing availability of OEM and even some aftermarket parts, combined with declining value of these cars as they age, I think it's time for it to be recycled. I will salvage the more expensive and NLA OEM parts from it like the MAF, lifter trays, all ignition components, etc. before sending it to the junkyard. Those parts might come in handy for future use on "Jasper", the 2000 SS that I bought new and will be my baby until critical parts are NLA , and will retain me as a long time MCF member. Yellow jackets nesting in the outside mirrors and tail light gaps year after year while sitting through Covid will not be missed...lol.

AH! OK. Sounds like this Monte has seen it's better days. Totally understand. If there is anything worth parting out, might be worth making a thread on this site and possibly Facebook sites.
