With the mileage on it, I want to make sure all the steering components and suspension and such is ok. I'd hate to be driving with my kids in the car and have something break.
Hopefully it turns out to be a good deal. 5th gens shouldn't be too hard to find though, so if it dosent turn out good I'm sure theres more around.

Well, I actually found another 6th gen that was in my price range. I picked it up tonight. It's a 2001 SS. I'll get pictures and such tomorrow.

Thanks. The body is in great shape. It needs a few things on the interior. The previous owner wasn't too good at fixing things that quit working or broke inside the car. At least there's no rust and it runs good.

Like my grandparents always say it can look like a million bucks but its not worth it if it dosent run good. How it runs is the main thing the rest is cosmetic

Ok, I'm home for lunch, so here's how the purchase went. I found the car for sale for $3000. I contacted the seller and went to look at it. I went to take the car for a test drive, and the battery was dead because the car had been sitting for awhile. No big deal. Got out the jumper cables and jumped it. The car ran and drove excellent. When I got back from the test drive the guy asked what we were looking to spend. I told him that I wasn't sure and asked what he'd be willing to sell it for. He said he was embarassed that it wouldn't start, so he could knock it down to $2000. Fair condition KBB value is like $5000, so I was trying not to show my excitement. I acted like I was thinking about it and then said "well, I guess we could go $2000 on it."

$1000 for a dead battery! I've been driving it today, and have had no problems with the battery. The car starts right up. I figure, if it ends up needing a battery, I can swing $100 to save $1000 on the price of the car.
