A few years ago someone asked me if my Monte was a Ford. I said "Nooooooo. Its a Monte Carlo." Then he goes "Oh, that's a Chevy? I thought it was a Torino." Idiot. LOL!

I know how to spot a 1970 and 1971 Monte. Just look at the knight's crest on the grill. The year is in the crest. In Roman Numberals. No other year of Monte has the year in the crest.

Today's semi-useful fact!

Hate to throw a monkey wrench into that but, and correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the Lumina LTZ have a Monte front clip?

Taz: I know I had heard that the older Montes had Roman numeral on the crest, had assumed that it was all the older models didn't realize that it was that limited! Great little bar trivia though!

OK it was driving me up a wall for awhile, I knew I had seen them:

Memory has it that the rear end looked the same as the Z34 also. Guess we need to work on how to tell a Lumina from a Monte Carlo without looking at the side yet.

'06 and '07 Montes, not much different other than no 3.9L and all the 3.5L with the FlexFuel have little FlexFuel badges on them, other than that there isn't really a way. Now telling an '06/'07 Monte apart from an Impala is easy, I see it coming and I think that's a low sitting Impala then it gets close enough for me to see the lower grill and I know it's a Monte.

Anyone know if the hood of the Monte actually sits lower than the Impala? I've always thought the looked lower but never payed attention when parking next to one.

I was playing poker on Facebook once and had a picture of my Monte up and one guy said I had a nice car and wanted to know if I'd race my Mustang against his RX-7 that's set for drag racing at over 700hp and I replied by telling him that even if he does have a sweet drag car he should still be able to tell a Chevy product from a Ford one. I felt a bit insulted.
