I was kinda curious about the difference up front also. The other three sides are never a problem. They're so obviously different.

I've done that a couple times looking in my rear view mirror. Thought to myself, is that a Monte or a Lumina riding my a$$? I never knew the Lumina had a different grill.

Thanks JJ! We can always count on ya!

I still have problems identifying 7th gen Montes from Impalas from the front. I have to look at the lower grill to know if it's a Monte or an Impala.

This goes back to my last post. The 80's Monte's looked like Grand Prix's, Grand Nationals, and Olds Cutlass's. The Monte from the 80's up had an identity crisis. I can't help but think that may have had something to do with it's demise.

JJ, do you count sheep at night in bed? Or popcorn kernels?

(I had to get the word popcorn in this thread somehow.)

Actually its not that hard to tell them apart.

The Monte has a wide grill opening.
The Regal has an up-turn on the lower part of the grill.
The Grand Prix's grill extends past the bumper.
The Cutlass also has an upturn on the lower part of the grill. But its a 2 part grill.

Easy huh?

I should have clarified a little.

Me being a huge fan of the 4th gen Monte's, I have no problem telling them apart. But I was referring to people like the one's at the gas station today (the subject of this thread).

For them, they wouldn't know one from the other.

For example, a Corvette would never be mistaken for any other GM car. It has a distinctive look that isn't similar to any other GM car. The Monte's from the 70's had a distinct look unlike any other GM car. The Monte's from the 80's and up can't say that.

lol. what's cool about debadging is it's kind of a nice way to start out a conversation. not trying to BRAG about my car, but i do get alot of compliments on the street. like the car show every monday in skokie, IL i sometime go. well, last week i went and had my car out for display. a mechanic who was at the show was amazed how i put the car together from the wheels to the engine bay. he said he worked on alot of monte carlo, but have never saw one like mine. he throught the supercharged was an after market part. imo alot of people only remember the good old '70-'88 monte carlo and pretty much the 5th and 6th gen is kind of forgotten about that's why i make my monte different than everybody else trying to keep the 6th gen spirit going. we might not have a V8 power plant, but we can make it sound and drive like the V8. maybe in about 10-15 years from now the 6th gen will be just as popular as the '70-88 monte, but i doubt it. i'm pretty sure it's still going to be around. don't mind me if what you reading doesn't make sense i'm just a babbling fool, lol.

OK, so now we know the differences between the 5th MC and Lumina. BTW - thanks, wondered that myself - I always just look for extra doors.
Now, is there a way to tell the '00-'05 apart? What about the '06 from the '07?
