Default Tighten gas cap

I bought a new GM gas cap 2 weeks ago before leaving for Fla. As soon as I put it on , a mile later CE light went back off. Now the stupid light is on again and keep seeing message tighten gas cap. I have that thing tight. Should I just take that one back and get another or is there an easy solution to this problem. CEL being on drives me crazy. Then if you have a real problem and it was already lit, you'd never know.

I'll have to keep an eye on this thread in case somebody has an answer my grandma has a 2001 Ford Escape, after a month or two of owning it the engine light came on, went the Wilbur Ford and found out it was the gas cap. So she got a new one...3 times within two months time, she gave up and the light has been on for pretty much 10 years now, everytime I go to drive it it drives me crazy but it runs fine.

My parents' had this issue in their 06 SS. It was an EVAP problem that the dealership took under an extended warranty. I forget what the actual fix was for them.

I think I already encountered this problem before. As far as I can remember, what I did before to fix this "tighten gas cap" message is that I turned off the car first, disconnected the battery by removing the negative terminal. Then I waited for a few seconds then I reattached it. Then I started the car and then that cleared it. If it doesn't work then bring it to your dealer. It still got warranty.
