Space, you know my opinion. You buy what you like and you enjoy it.

I don't have much money and the 17K the car cost me asa certified used car would not get me any other 06 or 07 model that would make me happy.

Sure you could buy a Toyota, been there done that!
I hear ya! Traded my 05 Mazda3 in on a used 06 Monte, and havent spent a second looking back. As for the Monte being one ofthe ten worst cars, obviously noone has consulted any of the people who actually drive a Monte Carlo. Before I bought this car, I went online and looked up reviews of the car by actualpeople. More often than not, these people were extremely satisfied with their car, and the value they received for their money. Sure the car won't win any rally championships, or corner on a dime, but it is a full sized sport coupe (and a fine looking one at that no matter which generation you drive). One should also look at the long term satisfaction and reliability of thesecars. How many older Montes are on the road as compared to other cars which have long beenRIP in some car graveyard? I live in Canada, where winter is veryhard on cars, and I see many older Montes on the road here - a testament totheir build quality and overall reliability. You've allgot something special in your Monte Carlo - be proud. Even though it may only be our little secret [sm=smiley2.gif]

The Worst American Cars 2006
by FORBE'S
Corvettes and Cadillacs demonstrate that American carmakers are building the best vehicles they have ever built. But some of their output, such as Buick's Terraza minivan, still leave a bit to be desired.Consumer Reports, which generally avoids opinionated reviews, complains on its Web site of the Terraza's "stiff ride and noisy interior.""Handling is reluctant," writes the organization. "The interior trim is insubstantial. The new snout can't disguise the fact that these are outdated minivans that are not competitive in their class. First-year reliability has been much worse than average."
See this year's worst American cars.
Video: Worst American CarsSo much worse, in fact, that the Terraza is included in the slide show that follows this piece--a list of the worst American cars. By "American cars," we mean vehicles built by American brands and sold here, not cars that are built by foreign companies in the U.S. (Japanese companies such as Toyota Motor (nyse: TM - news - people ), for example, manufacture cars in the U.S.) We tracked down the domestic vehicles that have the lowest gas mileage, do the poorest job of holding their value, have the lowest safety ratings, have the worst predicted reliability, have the lowest percentage of satisfied owners, and get the worst U.S. Environmental Protection Agency air-pollution and greenhouse-gas scores. We excluded from our calculations any models headed for discontinuation or replacement in the coming months. The cars that made our list are not necessarily unpopular ones. Among the ranks are the Pontiac Grand Prix sedan from General Motors (nyse: GM - news - people ), which sold 122,000 units in the U.S. last year even though it scores low on value retention, and the Chevrolet Uplander minivan, which sold 73,000 units despite its poor reliability ratings. (GM declined to comment on the inclusion of these cars in this story.)Ford's E-Series van, a $26,000 vehicle, made the list with the lowest EPA air-pollution and greenhouse-gas scores possible (see: " Least Green Machines"). The company's Crown Victoria sedan was included because Consumer Reports assigns the car its lowest-possible rating for predicted depreciation, a measure of how models tend to hold their value through the first three years of ownership. The Crown Victoria's twin model, [b]Mercur

I gotta agree with what's been said.

Who ever wrote the Monte was one of the worst cars built never drove/enjoyed one.

They must be a Hugo or Vibe lover or something?

Why was the monte on the list? Dated, dated, dated design and platform. I like the lines on the car (ala 1970's). But at some point you have to step up to the plate with a quality product. Now I'm not saying that they are problematic or anything. I haven't had one problem yet with mine. However, for the same amount of money I could say have the quality of a honda or toyota. These days people have families and a 2 door just doesn't figure into that equation. Also GM doesn't advertise for the monte. When was the last time you seen a commercial for one? Just my .02 worth.
I would put my 2006 Monte up against a Toyota or Honda any day with regards to quality. Not sure what year Monte you have, but have you looked a the 06 & 07's yet? GM is putting out some phenomonial (spelling?) cars now and the quality and tolerances are well in line, if not better, than our foreign counterparts. I don't understand what the draw is to Honda or Toyota, why would I want to drive something that half my neighborhood has and the styling is very unnoticable.

Also, ifI'm not mistaken people had families back in the 70's and 80's when coupes where everywhere! I remember having to do the very complex task of pushing the back of the seat forward to get in the back of my mom's '79 Monte, then again in her '84Regal, and wouldn't you know I had to do the same in her '87 Cutlass. That's probably considered child abusein today's world. [sm=outcold.gif]

[sm=sorry.gif]Sorry if I went off on a little tangent here, I'm just passionate about my Monte!

No offence to anyone!

Review
After a year and a half of driving this car, I have mostly good things to say about this car. GM seems to have improved their build quality over the past few years of Monte Carlos. I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever. I love the strong pulling V6, decent gas mileage, and the 8 speaker audio system.
Favorite Features
240 hp V6, MP3/ipod compatible audio system, dual exhaust
Suggested Improvements
Bigger instrument panel
