Is there an average life span on the battery? Mine is getting near five years old and I was wondering should I replace it.

 

Battery life varies.

If it's a Delco.. it could go 8-10 years. They are pretty good batteries.

Funny, everyone usually thinks cold is hard on batteries, when heat is the #1 killer.

As noted, location location location... A battery in Phoenix AZ more than likely will not last as long as one in NJ...

Among the other things I handle I manage a fleet of 70 vehicles across the country and looked at battery cost at one point that highlighted this heat issue in relation to battery life..

Of course other factors play into the life of a battery, how often it cycles, how long does the engine run to recharge the battery, cable shape, etc..etc..
