Split decision between buying two monte carlos. Help? thanks =]
Really? Thanks. I paid about 10k for the car itself. The paint is in crappy condition (by my standards) from the previous owner though... really the only gripe I have about the car since buying it a year ago. These new Montes are solid, from my experience. Not a bad option for you if you can't find an 80s.
With a three speed 350 and 373's? 3200 sounds a little low at 65mph. Another thing I dont understand is how they top out at 126mph stock but the speedo goes to 85.. Is there an aftermarket gauge cluster for the 4th gen ss? Things like this are making me lean towards a newer monte but with 5 grand i think id be happier with a clean 80's then a high mileage crap 03 LS with a 3.4L.
Third gear is still 1:1 in a 350. I used one of those online RPM calculators and thats what it came up with. It sounds pretty close to me. 3.73s arent as low as you think. My 93 F150 had 3.55s stock.
Alright guys, the tewksbury guy finally Called me and i MISSED the call haha. He's out and going to call me back in about an hour and i'm planning on going to see it friday. I'm not a super pro at inspecting these things but i know to check the frame for rust, udner the bumpers, t top column, check the wheel wells the trunk, also make turns with the car to check the ball joints, floor it and see if it takes off or jsut stalls, check the brakes, check the reverse, and go through the gears. check the ac and heat. here is the link again if anyone missed it 1987 Monte Carlo SS he is asking 5000. But i feel like i should argue that down to at least around 4000. I'm not sure what to use against that car because it looks pretty damn clean. When he calls me im going to ask 101 questions. any tips on this guys? thanks.
Wow, if that car is anything like it looks in the pics, its a keeper. Maybe check the doors for rust also, I've heard they're prone to it. Try to get it for $4000 if you can. I know I got my Pace Car down another $500 or more (can't remember exactly) because they felt it was going to a good home. They told me they didn't want to sell it to a high school kid. No offense to our younger members here, because you guys take great care of your Montes.
Haha I'm no highschooler. I'm 21 lol. I just got my 3 year associates in physical science. So i "guess" that puts a good, well, decent head on my shoulders so I wont be killing myself in one of these. I'll Deff try to get it down to 4000. Any tips on how to haggle this guy? haha
I don't know, in my case I just talked about how I'd been looking for an SS for months when I came across their Pace Car and thought it would be great to own a collectible. Things like that. I couldn't find any flaws on mine that they didn't already point out, so I couldn't negotiate much that way. It might have helped that we drove my dad's 2002 LS when when we went to look at it, kind of showed them we were "Monte Carlo people." LOL I'm sure someone may have some tips for you. I hope you get this car, it looks nice and you've been looking a long time.
You guys have no idea haha. I have been looking forever for one of these longer than I remember I joined the forum in march, and that wasnt even when i started looking. If this doesnt workout, I may just save a little more and get a good newer SS. My job is less than a mile away from home so I'm in no rush to buy a car right now. What I'm also saving for is that if I do buy this monte carlo, its going to be my daily for quite sometime and possibly through this winter, so I'm going to have to get a couple layers of undercoat for the car. Over night itll be stored in a garage during winter, ill rinse it off if theres any salt on it. How much would a "good" 03 SS go for now a days? I'm going to do some research now.
