Default slow to start after 1st start

I have a question about my 2003 Monte Carlo SS. The first time I start the car for the day I just “bump” the key and it starts right up. After its been driven a few miles the second and sometimes the third start I have to let the motor turn for 2 or 3 seconds before it will start. I’m the original owner and the car only has 35k on the clock. I burn gasoline without ethanol and I’ve put fuel injector cleaner in it. Any ideas as to what’s going on? It does have the original air filter thou.

thanks..

Default Help with long restarts!

Hello Blair. I am not sure what causes this, but I am having the same or similar problem with my 2001 MC SS. My car starts great when the engine is cold, but if it is at run temperature and I shut it off for about 10 minutes and then restart it, the starter spins several seconds longer than it should to refire the engine.

The two ideas I have is that either the heat is causing a fuel problem to the injector or the heat is causing a sensor problem and in turn a sensor is delaying the start. These are just my ideas, not sure where to go with them. I have read that heat will affect either the crank or cam position sensor and cause a failure.

Keep a watch on the forum and maybe someone will post a solution.

I am going to copy this to the Monte Carlo Repair Help thread, you may get a better response there.

Could be a lot of things, but it has to do with one of these 3: air, fuel, and ignition (spark)

i had a similar problem turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. i would get the fuel pressure checked first and go from there

yeah thanks for the replies, car was fine till a month or so ago and it started doing it.....

Oh one thing I forgot to mention is that my car sat in a friends garage for 4 years until early this summer and he needed the space again so I brought my car home. Because of mine and my girlfriends health I didn’t get over there to drive it much or start it. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not. I’ve just filled the fuel tank for the 3rd time since I’ve had it back home (Sunoco Ultra 93). I know it’s worse on a car to just let it sit than to drive it. That’s why my car only has 35,000 miles on the clock. I did put in a can of Royal Purple fuel injector cleaner on the 2nd fill-up. I haven’t had it on the interstate since I’ve had it home to keep the RPMs high for long. Also I have the original air filter in the car.
