I have a question about my 2003 Monte Carlo SS. The first time I start the car for the day I just “bump” the key and it starts right up. After its been driven a few miles the second and sometimes the third start I have to let the motor turn for 2 or 3 seconds before it will start. I’m the original owner and the car only has 35k on the clock. I burn gasoline without ethanol and I’ve put fuel injector cleaner in it. Any ideas as to what’s going on? It does have the original air filter thou.
thanks.. )First posted by Blair1955, Copied from General Monte Carlo Talk
Hello Blair. I am not sure what causes this, but I am having the same or similar problem with my 2001 MC SS. My car starts great when the engine is cold, but if it is at run temperature and I shut it off for about 10 minutes and then restart it, the starter spins several seconds longer than it should to refire the engine.
The two ideas I have is that either the heat is causing a fuel problem to the injector or the heat is causing a sensor problem and in turn a sensor is delaying the start. These are just my ideas, not sure where to go with them. I have read that heat will affect either the crank or cam position sensor and cause a failure.
Keep a watch on the forum and maybe someone will post a solution.
I am going to copy this to the Monte Carlo Repair Help thread, you may get a better response there.
