Yeah, but the kid turns 16 and it's like "Here's keys to your own T/A with T-tops, dad put it back together and we got you setup with a winter beater".
Now, admittedly, the T/A was $500 because the previous owner had it ripped apart to change head gaskets and decided he was done with the car. His dad nabbed it in a heart beat, put the drive train back together and his mom cleaned the crap out of the car. For it's age and how much they spent, it's an AWESOME car (not mint, has it's age marks, but not a bad first car).

A friend of ours gave his 16 year old son a blue 4th gen Trans Am that is the same age as the son. I was amazed to hear he found that color blue was MORE rare then your purple!
BTW - The son also got a junker for a winter beater. He's got nice parents....
