Question Service Traction Control???

Hello Monte forum people

I haven't been on here in a while and for that I apologize

The problem I am having is this:

During the first snow (Ohio) I was using the traction control and ABS braking in the snow more than the average driver would. I did this because I am use to 10 years of a rear wheel drive Camaro.

Well, I "played" around in the snow a bit with the Monte then stoped because felt satisfied that I knew how to control it in adverse weather.

Weeks later "Service Traction Control" came on the little information screen and both traction control and ABS braking is lost. Before the service light comes on, both ABS and Traction Control works.

Now, this only comes on every once and a while. It's been doing it for about 2 weeks now. It comes on at random times. I have never been able to find a common factor as to why it is occurring i.e. going over bumps, wet weather, wet pavement, steering wheel turned, dry braking, wet braking etc....

I tried to read the code with a OBD-II code reader that I have and it came up with nothing. I took it to Autozone to see if they could read it but I was told only a dealership of a shop will be able to read what is wrong. He said that braking and traction control will not be read by a OBD-II Reader.

Long story short, he has a friend at a shop that will read it for $40. Do you think I should have his attempet to read what is wrong?

It seems to me that a sensor is out or there is a loose plug/wire because both systems work (ABS/Trac) before the service light comes on. But I could be wrong.

Weird

Thanks for any help or info!!!

It's most likely something to do with one of your hubs. The diagnostic reader would tell you which one, but check all the connections first

thanks for the quick reply!

Im not sure what you mean by "hub"...I'm comfortable around cars but no pro

I did push in some wires there were connected to the abs/braking unit and it hasn't been on since (1 1/2 days) but nothing is usually that easy to fix but who knows.

If the "service traction control" light is not on, will the shop still be able to read what triggered it?

I figure they are probably going to hook up to the computer directly but not even sure about that

Thanks!

you pushing those wires in could have fixed it, it is possible. like chibi said if water or snow gets in that connection and freezes, it can push wiring pins out and force connectors apart. if it comes on again...get it read

Thanks to all who responded!

Well, now that you all are talking about snow and ice build up I do remember doing something to the Monte......

There was a substantial amount of ice built up just behind the front wheels. It was really caked on and it took several kicks on each side to get them to fall off.

I did push in the two plugs ther go into the abs unit (I think there are 2) and it hasnt come on since then. We also have not had any snow this whole time. Sooooo....

It's day 3 1/2 and still no light.....I'm glad I didnt take it to get read! Well, lets hope it's just a loose connection.. I will check the connections at the 4 hubs as well.

Super thanks to all!!!

Anthony
