Question Rim and Tire help Needed!

Just bought my first Monte (07 SS) . I figured since the car is in need of new tires, it would be a sweet time to just do an upgrade from the stock 18x7 rim to the 18x7.5 or 18x8

Is this an easy bolt on situation or are spacers needed all around ? ( I would prefer to stay away from spacers if I can)

Also, what size tires would you think are a great fit for the 18x7.5 or 18x8? giving it a beefy look without having strut rub or fender rub issues.

Lastly, Recommended diameter ?

New to the Monte Carlo world and greatly appreciate any info or help.

Given the stock tire is wider than the stock rim, there is certainly space for a slightly wider wheel. The bigger thing to watch is going to be backspacing on your new wheel. It doesn't take much change in backspacing before the tire is forced into the strut (needing spacers) or into the fender - especially if you're trying to go wider on the tire too.

Take a look at the tire type / brand you're interested in to see what they recommend. Unfortunately, the widest you'll typically find recommended for a 8" is going to be a 245. Certainly people have run wider, but there are tradeoffs to going notably wider than recommended.

Lastly, Recommended diameter ?
Depends what you like and plan to do with it. A drag racing oriented person would probably go smaller (at least up front). Someone just doing shows would probably go way bigger. I think 18" is a nice middle ground, but it depends what you're into.

I've run everything from a 15" to a 20" on wbodys, and 18"s are what I run on my last remaining wbody (and coincidentally what was on my last W too).

Seriously wow, thank you for all this info. It helped answer questions I didn't even get to add into the original post. A tire size of 235 - 245 puts me in a nice size market to shop.

Also, I'm just planning on building a nice, quick - bolt on build, that I can drive daily. Maybe later down the road get into adjustable suspension.

So basically, I need to check the backspacing to be clear of any strut rub.
Is there a recommended measurement or number?

I only ask because I'm considering these two at the moment.

Super grateful for the help

Having not owned a new monte SS, I'd rather leave those suggestions to others that do have them. I'd hate to give you info from other W cars ive had in case they're a bit different.

You should be able to use the "fit this vehicle" option on discount tire's website.. Thats what I did anyway.

I was thinking about buying a set of 18" Redline wheels from an Equinox or something to put on my car because I thought the red/black would look good, and it'd be all in the Chevy family.... The site I was shopping on said that they would not fit my car. I believe my factory wheels are 18X7s and these were 18X7.5s. I thought it would work... I didn't want to spend that much money only to find out that, as usual, I was wrong...

You did it and had no rub issues I'm guessing. Because that's what I was worried about. I'm going to double check the website for fitment. Thank you man
