i just took my gm squares off a couple days ago and was afraid of a little fading too, but once i got the 3M stuff off, it looked very clean with no fading that i could tell. If you want them gone just take some fishing line and snake it behind the emblem and just go back and forth from the left to the right while adding a little downward pressure. The emblem will come off and leave a little foam behind (from the double sided 3m tape). I just soaked it and peeled it off like a sticker and you're all good. I did this before i went all crazy with clay bar and wax, but i'm sure you wouldn't have to go that crazy if you didn't want. Here's a picture, like i said--she's an 06 and i just took it off 2 days ago. . . . .

i was gonna say. . . i'd be more concerned if it was the hood or top of the trunk, but the side of the car shouldn't be as bad. It does kinda depend on how much it's garaged though
