Removable ROOF

Removable ROOF
I miss my C4 corvette and its removable roof top, Does anybody think this can be done to a monte carlo or has been done? I have seen ragtop roofs but that isn't what I am thinking of. I think it be cool to take the roof off if a monte doesn't have a glass sun roof.
what's anybodys thoughts on this?

RE: Removable ROOF
Funny you mention this because I wanted to do the same to mine. After reading some peoples posts and articles on it, it seems that it ruins the structural integrity too much and would require major support welding in order to complete properly. It was also mentioned that it would cost a pretty penny as well. That is just what i have read though, and I have very little experience, but was also interested in doing the same......until I read the bad news. If anyone has any more accurate info or places that may do this, I'm all ears!

RE: Removable ROOF
the roof is removable!! if you look on your roof, between the a pillar (is that what its called, from between the door and the roof), and the roof itself, there is a small plastic strip. if you remove that strip from each side, take the upholstery lose, and unfasten the roof from the car, it pops right out!!! i don't recommend it, but you can do it, hahaha
as far as T Tops that you mention go, get a trans am or something. i didn't know they still made them though.

RE: Removable ROOF
You are actually talking about almost 2 different types of cars here with the same badging. A convertible or any vehicle that has a removable roof has a different frame than a standard one. It needs extra rigidity or the car will shake apart.
