Getting ready for my first road trip in my 01 Monte SS, and just discovered the fact that the only outlet for the GPS is on the back of the console. Is this the closest to the dash? If so it is too far for the power cord to reach.

Looking in the owners manual I see there is wiring under the glove box for an accessory under the glove box. What would I have to do to turn this into an accessory outlet for the GPS?

You don't have a power outlet to the left of the front cup holder?

 

I'm not familiar with the source next to the glove box. What I did was scab a couple of 12v receptacles from the junk yard and mounted them on my console as pictured. Tied them into the 12v source at the rear of the console.

Now I can power my radar detector from the cigarette lighter outlet. And power the GPS and charge my cell phone from the console side and still have the rear console receptacle open for a 4th item if need be.

Lets see your solution when you resolve this, fun to see peoples work arounds.

 

I have one that is the cubby hole that also has two USB slots to. I will take a picture later.

 

I'm totally embarrassed. Just went out, looked and saw the cigar lighter next to the cup holder. I even found a picture on this forum that showed the lighter in the console and wondered why I didn't have one there. I'll slink away now. pps:
