Hey, last Monday (9/16/2019), I became the proud new owner of a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34, 3.4L DOHC engine and all. I was wondering if there are any good mods to do to these cars for beginners that would get a little extra power out of this peppy little V6. Anybody got any suggestions for me to read up on to get started?
I can't really recommend mods , but I will suggest knowing when the timing belt was changed . It is probably the most important part to keep up on service. It is a hassle to install and expensive to have replaced but if it breaks the outcome is always bad.
Alright, thanks for the advice. We don't know when the timing belt was done persay, but we do have a sticker that tells us when it should be done next. It says that it should be done at about 233K miles, and my Dad (who used to be a GM technician) looked it over and said that it looked like whoever did it knew what they were doing.

Unfortunately, the 3.4 DOHC doesn't have a huge aftermarket. You could always do a fenderwell intake, but other parts are very pricey if even available at all. Check out milzymotorsports.com for more info.
Performance Mods ? the car would already have as much as it can get. Air intake maybe. Remove the resonator and the the mufflers, put a Cherry Bomb glass pack where the resonator was and go straight pipes to the back good sound and a little more power.
Best mods would be for the looks of the Car, ground effects, Spoiler, etc. Ground effects body kit, Air Dam, wheels. Headlight covers. Tinted windows. ground effects, Spoiler, front air Dam, wheels
You really run into 2 problems with the 3.4 dohc aftermarket:
-1 it hasn't been produced in more than 20 years
-2 it wasn't produced in particularly high volume when it was made
There is still a little bit out there - as mentioned above, Milzy makes headers. Also WOT Tech has some parts (forged pistons, tuning, etc). There may be some others, I'm just not real familiar with the engine platform.
Dont let the limited aftermarket scare you too much though. If you're really dedicated to adding power and have the cash (or skills and tools), you can make whatever you're looking for.
A good example are some of the old Fiero builds where they'd swap this engine in and fab up a simple turbo kit in the exhaust crossover. But the same goes for everything else - head porting, high compression pistons, custom camshafts, etc. Everything can be done as a one off, it's just not as cost effective as shelf stocked/ common parts on a more typical platform like a LS.
It's just limited by how deep your pockets are and how far you want to push it.
Unfortunately (as is the case with many of these relatively low volume engines), there isnt much out there in terms of cheap bang for the buck mods. The other thing is that given the age / mileage of the car, it won't take much before you've spent more than the car is worth (if that is something that matters to you).

Alright, thanks for all the tips guys. They've been pretty helpful. I'm thinking of doing exhaust and maybe freshening it up a bit appearance wise. Then I'll either keep it or flip it and shoot for a late sixth gen or sixth gen refresh (Seventh Gen?) SS. There's a lot you can do with an L67 or an LS4.
