Hi Charles,
I don't think going over 1K miles is going to hurt your Monte (unless it's driven like a Taxi Cab with constant stop & go driving habits, or you're pulling a trailer) ...
Today's oil is pretty good & if you have been maintaining your Monte you shouldn't have any problems.
What type of oil are you using ? Filter ?
